Hello,
I'm up just for a moment to let the dog out, then will go back to bed for a couple of hours. Then will have a long day, going early to the grocery store to get lots of things such as apples, pecans, mirlitons, coffee. Then a nurse will be coming to check my Mom. Family will be coming in later this morning - they drove in from Jacksonville, Florida, which is a little under 1000 km from here.
I will answer your query about "tradition" but will be when I have more time later on today or tonight.

It's good to know that you too believe in living to eat! :-)
OK. I look fwd to what you'll say.

2the captain: I wasn't being rude unless you think voicing differing views is rude. If I say "I regard food traditions stupid", it doesn't say anything about those people's level of intellect. That should be obvious. Then, I didn't talk about rituals. I was referring specially to food traditions during holidays in the broad sense. During marriage etc. it isn't written as statement what people should eat exactly.  Like turkey during Thanksgiving, Christmas ham etc. - when we hear "Thanksgiving", we picture specific dishes germaine to the holiday. What you said is narow topic. I understand that it's very ancient traditions but it still doesn't answer the question "why". I just don't seem to understand how such trivial thing - food, thing that we eat to get by & thing that should be one's house business, the traditions passed from the older generation to next, family specialties etc. - is brought to (inter)national level.
